“Marry me in Verona”

January 19, 2011 Weddings Unlimited, Inc.

"A stroke of Juliet's breast brings good luck!"

I have chosen Verona, Italy as the first in my series of posts on destination weddings and honeymoons. Most appropriate selection for this time of year as Valentine’s Day is fast approaching.

Dubbed the “city of love”, Verona  is the setting for William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Act II, Scene II is where the infamous balcony scene takes place between the two lovers. For the true romantic, Juliet’s House, with its famous balcony, is the perfect setting for evoking the magic of Verona and repeating Romeo and Juliet’s vow of eternal love.

Nearby, accommodations for your guests could be the Hotel Accademia. Founded in 1565 for the education of young noblemen; and then in 1880 turned into an elegant hotel facing onto the most exclusive shopping street in the heart of Verona.

How do you entertain your guests during their stay in this romantic city? A tour company I met while on my fact-finding visit, suggested a treasure hunt to explore Verona. The group will be divided into teams. Each team will have a guide-book and map of the city. The game will end at Juliet’s House where she will give a prize to the winning team. Or a romantic dinner with Romeo and Juliet at one of the best restaurants in Verona?  Better yet, visit Verona between legend and reality with a walking tour with the guide dressed in ancient costume.  As your wedding planner, I could fill a lot more space; but will wait to plan your personal visit.

In closing, Verona is a fabulous and unique city. Full of history and their art is ranked up there with the best. The locals are friendly and inviting. The food and wine are superior! Would I get married or honeymoon in Verona? In a “heartbeat”!

As a side note: The legal requirements for getting married in Italy are more simplified than other European countries.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
